FAIRFIELD COUPLE NARROWLY AVOIDS WIRE FRAUD

On April 21, 2025, Corporal Ben Griffin of the Fairfield Glade Police Department responded to a fraud incident at First National Bank in Fairfield Glade, TN, involving a man and woman. The couple received a fraudulent email claiming a $650.20 Amazon purchase and instructing them to call a number.
The female called and was deceived into sharing personal information, including their names, birthdates, address, card number, bank account number, and possibly Social Security numbers.
The scammer attempted to set up online banking but was thwarted when the female provided outdated information.
A bank representative advised her to close the compromised account, which she did, transferring funds to a new account. The scammer made multiple follow-up calls, but a bank officer blocked the number. Griffin advised the woman to power off her computer for professional cleaning and to monitor credit cards for suspicious activity.
No monetary loss occurred, and a fraud report was filed for detective review. The case is marked for administrative use.
