TWO TRAFFIC STOPS IN OLIVER SPRINGS YIELDS TWO ARRESTS

From the Oliver Springs Police Department:
While conducting proactive patrol in the Midway Dr. area this afternoon, what began as two separate traffic stops for registration violations resulted in the arrests of two individuals by Oliver Springs Police Officers.
The first stop began after the Officer noticed that the displayed registration did not match the vehicle to which it was affixed. The driver, a 25-year-old man from Clinton, was found to be driving on a suspended license and in possession of marijuana. He was subsequently arrested for Unlawful Use of a License Plate, Driving on a Suspended License, and Possession of Marijuana.
A short time later, an attentive Officer noticed the driver of another vehicle who was showing deceptive behavior. A stop of the vehicle was conducted for an improperly displayed registration plate and the driver continued to show deceptive behavior throughout the stop. After a probable cause search of the vehicle, a distributable amount of methamphetamine was located as well as marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. A 50-year-old Knoxville man was taken into custody for the Manufacture/Sale/Delivery of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Improper Display of Registration Plates.
“Proactive policing is a force multiplier that helps us detect and deter criminal activity before it escalates. By maintaining a visible presence and enforcing even the most minor infractions, we not only remove dangerous substances from our streets but also build trust within the community. This strategy ultimately makes Oliver Springs a safer place for all residents,” said Chief David Laxton.
