U.C.H.R.A. TO LAUNCH MINOR HOME REPAIR PROGRAM FOR SENIORS

The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency (UCHRA) is launching a pilot program to assist low-income seniors aged 60 and older with minor home repairs in Putnam, Overton, and Jackson counties, as reported by the Herald-Citizen. Funded by a $25,000 grant from the Tennessee Housing Development Agency, the initiative aims to help seniors remain in their homes by addressing small repair needs, such as fixing steps or installing grab bars, with a maximum of $2,000 per household.

The program targets seniors earning up to 80% of the area’s median income, prioritizing those with the greatest need. UCHRA is collaborating with local nonprofits like Habitat for Humanity and is seeking licensed contractors to perform the repairs. This effort is part of a broader strategy to enhance seniors’ quality of life and prevent the need for costly long-term care facilities.
