ROCKWOOD POLICE RESPOND TO TWO-CAR CRASH
On Saturday afternoon at 5:22 p.m., Rockwood Police responded to a two-car crash with injury at the intersection of North Gateway Avenue (U.S. Route 27) and Tyler Pointe Drive near the Walmart in Rockwood, where one vehicle ended up overturned on its top. K9 Officer Charles Haubrich’s report details that Mrs. Ruth Tate of Oakdale, driving a red 2018 Nissan Murano northbound in the right lane, ran a red light and failed to stop.
She was struck in the left rear quarter panel by Mrs. Emily Johnson, 31, of Rockwood, who was in a red 2018 Chevrolet Cruze stopped southbound in the left-turn lane with a green arrow to proceed onto Tyler Pointe Drive. The impact caused Tate’s vehicle to spin, roll over, and come to rest upside down in the median facing southbound.
Lieutenant Kendall Mitchell and Patrolman Christopher Blom were first on scene, interviewing both drivers and a witness whose dash cam video confirmed Johnson’s account, clearly showing the red light for northbound traffic. Both drivers provided proof of insurance; Tate declined medical transport and had her vehicle towed by Wheels Towing, while Johnson drove away from the scene.
