SHOOTING IN ROCKWOOD ON CHRISTMAS EVE
The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. just beyond Fire Tower Road on a Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency access road that leads into the woods.
According to Roane County Chief Deputy Tim Phillips, 48-year-old Tommy Cooper was killed following what investigators believe may have been an altercation involving family members at a makeshift dwelling where Cooper had been living.
Several individuals were reportedly at the scene and are believed to be potential witnesses. One person was transported to Roane Medical Center with what appeared to be shrapnel injuries related to gunfire.
Deputy Phillips said witnesses are still being interviewed and that if charges are filed, the case will likely be presented to a January or February session of the Roane County Grand Jury. Authorities are awaiting autopsy and toxicology results, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Roane County Sheriff’s Office.
