FAIRFIELD GLADE POLICE DEPARTMENT PARTNERING FOR ‘BOOZE IT AND LOSE IT’

UC Now reports that the Fairfield Glade Police Department is partnering with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office on the “Booze It and Lose It” campaign to combat impaired driving during the New Year’s holiday period. Patrol Captain Fred Sherrill noted that impaired drivers increase during the holiday season due to parties and poor decisions, with one in three crashes involving a DUI.
To enhance road safety, the department is boosting patrols and encouraging drivers to make better choices. Sherrill highlighted severe consequences for first-time DUI offenders, including fines, license suspension, jail time, and potentially fatal outcomes for themselves or others. He recommended planning ahead by designating a sober driver or arranging alternative transportation when celebrating.
Sherrill praised the campaign’s statewide success in recent years, citing a reduction of 142 fatalities compared to the previous year and a drop of 20 in the Cookeville area, though the state total stood at 1,003 as of late 2025, with ongoing efforts to drive the number lower and urging drivers to remain mindful of others on the road.
