72-YEAR-OLD CUMBERLAND MAN ALLEGEDLY SHOT AT NEIGHBOR OVER DRIVEWAY DISPUTE
On December 31, 2025, Deputy Breanna Freeman of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check at a residence on Turkey Blind Road. A 64-year-old resident, reported that while outside working on a vehicle with others, he heard a loud boom as he approached his porch, causing his ears to ring.
He realized the shot came from the nearby residence of his neighbor, Loy Launise Mixon, approximately 15-20 feet away, and checked himself for wounds, believing he might have been shot. Mixon, a 72-year-old resident at the same address, admitted to firing his .410-gauge Harrison & Richardson shotgun out his window in Wilkey’s direction, stating he was upset over frequent vehicles using their shared driveway.
Mixon was arrested on-view for reckless endangerment involving a deadly weapon (attempt). The firearm was seized as evidence, and Mixon was booked with a $15,000 bond and a court date set for January 9, 2026.
No injuries were reported.
