DRUNK MAN ARRESTED IN FAIRFIELD GLADE AFTER ALLEGEDLY CHASING TEENS ON BICYCLE
On December 31, 2025, at approximately 10:30 PM, Fairfield Glade Police responded to a call about a man chasing and screaming at several juveniles on Briar Court, accusing them of stealing. While en route, officers spotted a man matching the juveniles’ description—wearing a camouflage jacket and riding a bicycle—sitting in the middle of Lakeview Drive.
Upon contact, the man, identified as 22-year-old Billy Elmer Edwards from Sparta, wrecked his bicycle. Edwards admitted to police that he had seen the group of teens, suspected they were “up to no good and probably stealing,” and stated he was heading to a Shell station to buy alcohol for New Year’s celebrations after already consuming several drinks, acknowledging his intoxication. Due to his impaired state and prior disruptive behavior, officers determined Edwards posed a danger to himself and the public.
He was arrested on-view for public intoxication, handcuffed, searched, and transported to the Cumberland County Justice Center. A judicial commissioner approved the warrant, and Edwards was released on his own recognizance with a court date set for February 9, 2026, at 8:30 AM.
