OVER 68 GRAMS OF FENTANYL FOUND IN ROCKWOOD DRUG ARREST

From Rockwood Police Department:

On January 11, 2026, Officers Cofer and Cunningham observed a male subject in the parking lot,of the Rocky Top Gas Station. Officers confirmed the individual had an active felony warrant for violation of parole.

Officers made contact with the male on South Gateway Avenue near Rathburn Street, after activating their emergency lights. The subject was advised he was under arrest and instructed to place his hands behind his back. He immediately pulled away from officers and attempted to flee on foot. Officers brought the subject to the ground, where he continued to resist arrest. A Taser was deployed, allowing officers to gain control and place him into custody.

The male subject was searched, prior to transport to the jail for officer safety. During the search officers located a small Mickey Mouse purse hanging beneath the subject’s jacket. Inside the bag, officers found a large clear bag containing a gray powdery substance, suspected to be fentanyl, with a field weight of 68.57 grams. Also inside the purse were a black digital scale, aluminum foil, a Tennessee driver’s license belonging to a female, and a blue rubber tourniquet. All items were coated in the same gray powdery substance.

The subject was transported to the Roane County Jail. Upon arrival, he informed our officer that he may have “ice” (methamphetamine) concealed in his underwear. A search conducted by jail personnel resulted in the recovery of a small orange baggie containing a crystal‑like substance suspected to be methamphetamine, with a field weight of 0.84 grams.

The male subject was booked on the existing felony violation of probation warrant and now faces additional charges of:

• Manufacture, Delivery, Sale, or Possession of Schedule I (TCA 39‑17‑417)
• Manufacture, Delivery, Sale, or Possession of Methamphetamine (TCA 39‑17‑434)
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (TCA 39‑17‑425)
• Resisting Stop, Frisk, Halt, or Arrest (TCA 39‑16‑602)

The suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine have been submitted into evidence and will be sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for verification and analysis.
