CUMBERLAND COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING HIGHLIGHTS (JAN 20TH)

The Cumberland County Commission held its monthly meeting on January 20, 2026, with all commissioners present except Threet and Patterson; Commissioner Patterson was noted as recovering at home after a hospital stay.

The commission unanimously approved several resolutions, including the appointment of Jennifer Phillips-Cross to a two-year term and Joseph Moody to a six-month term as Judicial Commissioners (16-0 vote).

Multiple road-related items passed unanimously: adding Chestnut Ridge Lane (0.42 miles) and Chestnut Ridge Court (0.12 miles), adding Raquet Club Drive (0.11 miles), extending Houston Drive from 0.25 to 0.54 miles on the county road list, and ultimately approving the full 2026 Cumberland County Road List, which incorporates all additions made during 2025 and the current meeting—as required by law for official county road status.

Several routine budget amendments were also approved for various funds and departments, including grants for schools and cafeterias, longevity payments in highway, sanitation, and other areas, and adjustments for the county commission and sheriff’s department.

In financial updates, the Codes Department reported issuing 24 residential and 3 commercial building permits, along with numerous mechanical and plumbing permits in December 2025, generating $36,638 in fees.

EMS collections reached $526,771 for the month (exceeding estimates), though year-to-date figures remained $288,130 below projections. November sales tax collections were $1,490,147, surpassing estimates by $44,594 and putting the year ahead by $248,863. Property tax collections stood at 58.22% (slightly up from 57.5% the prior year), hotel/motel tax at $578,757 year-to-date (48.22% of the $1.2 million budget, down from last year’s pace), and prisoner boarding payments from state inmates totaled $237,185 (well above last year’s $128,658 against an annual budget of $397,823).
