WINTER STORM WATCH ISSUED FOR THE CUMBERLAND PLATEAU

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon for Cumberland, Pickett, and Fentress counties. Forecasters say the system could bring heavy snow and some icing, with more than 6 inches of snow possible. Ice totals could reach a quarter of an inch, with areas north of Interstate 40 more likely to see the higher snowfall amounts and areas south of Interstate 40 more likely to see the higher ice amounts. According to the National Weather Service, this combination of snow and ice may lead to power outages, tree damage, and travel becoming nearly impossible at times.
