YOUNG ARTISTS WIN BIG IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY SOIL & WATER STEWARDSHIP POSTER CONTEST

The Cumberland County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) recently sponsored a Soil and Water Stewardship Poster Contest.  The theme for this year’s contest was “Home is Where the Habitat Is”.  The theme encourages citizens, schools and communities to think about the importance of habitats.

The Cumberland County SWCD awarded winners in each category with Certificates of Achievement and cash prizes, and the awards were presented recently at the District’s Annual Awards Dinner.

The first-place winner in the kindergarten-first grade category was Maverick Simonds who attends North Cumberland Elementary, and the second-place winner was Crab Orchard Elementary student Lily Wolf.  In the second-third grade category, Crab Orchard Elementary Student Crimson Waldo placed first and homeschool student Kimber Bohannon placed second.

Winners in the fourth-sixth grade category were Crab Orchard Elementary student Tucker Brown placing first with Easton Brazle from the Christian Academy of the Cumberlands placing second.

In the seventh-ninth grade category, Schella Wyatt placed first, and Jensen Kraus placed second.  Both attend the Christian Academy of the Cumberlands.  Cumberland County High School students Natalie Dowlen and Myra Elliott, placed first and second respectively in the tenth-twelfth grade category.

The first-place posters in each category were entered in the Tennessee Association of Conservation Districts (TACD) State Poster Contest.

The SWCD would also like to express appreciation to everyone that promotes soil and water stewardship and encourages students to participate in the contest.

All programs and services of the Cumberland County Soil & Water Conservation District are offered on a nondiscriminatory basis without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, marital status or handicap.
