OAK RIDGE POLICE DEPARTMENT WARNS OF FRAUDULENT INVOICES
The Oak Ridge Police Department is alerting residents and businesses to a recent scam involving fraudulent invoices. Scammers have been sending emails from non-city email addresses, falsely claiming to be from the City of Oak Ridge Board of Zoning Appeals. These invoices are not legitimate. One example uses the suspicious address [email protected].
Official City of Oak Ridge payments, including those for Codes, are accepted only through the secure portal at https://portal.oakridgetn.gov/. The City never sends invoices from unofficial or suspicious email addresses. Similar scams have also targeted individuals by impersonating the Oak Ridge Beer Permit Board.
To protect yourself, always verify the sender’s email address, be wary of unexpected invoices, and contact the City directly before making any payment if you have doubts. If you receive a suspicious email, report it to the Oak Ridge Police Department at (865) 425-4399. Residents are encouraged to stay alert and share this information with others in the community.
