BLOUNT COUNTY, US 129/ SR 115 Tail of the Dragon: Due to the one lane condition of Interstate 40 near the Tennessee and North Carolina State Line as repairs continue from Hurricane Helene, this is a reminder for commercial vehicles in Tennessee and North Carolina attempting to use US 129 as an alternate around the I-40 work zone. No trucks with trailers over 30 feet in length, or single units over 30 feet in length are permitted on US 129 “The Dragon” in Tennessee or North Carolina. Thru truck traffic in Tennessee should follow I-81 North to I-26 East into North Carolina. These restrictions of US 129 will be strictly enforced day and night.

Traffic wider than 8 ½ feet is prohibited through this area. Wide Loads should follow I-81 North to I-26 East or I-77 South. This area remains a heavily active construction zone as permanent repairs continue. CUMBERLAND COUNTY I-40 [304.4-306.6] from MM 304.4 to MM 306.6 bridge repair and resurfacing: The contractor continues nighttime work on I-40. Temporary lane closures will be utilized throughout the project limits for the proposed work on the shoulders. Traffic has been shifted along the project route. CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-24 [0-0.16] from Putnam County Line to C189 bridge repair: The contractor continues working on the bridge repair on I-40 at MM 304.6 or SR-24 at LM 0.24. CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-24 [15.056-15.56] from Crossville city limits to Seventh-Day Adventist Church and School bridge replacement: The contractor has closed SR-24 at LM 15.06 to LM 15.6. This closure will remain in place for the duration of the project. The posted detour is along SR-462 and SR-1. The contractor will be working on general clearing activities and utility work initially. Once initial work is completed, the Contractor will proceed with the replacement of the bridge over the Obed River. Motorists should use caution and utilize the posted detour. RESTRICTIONS: Both lanes of SR-24 are closed at LM 15.06 to LM 15.6.

Lowe Rd (LM 29.2) to north of SR-62 (LM 1.9): The contractor has shifted traffic to phase 2 on the newly constructed portions of SR-28 LM 0.90 to 1.98 in Fentress County. Work will proceed on the existing alignment of SR-28. Flaggers are being used intermittently as needed to control traffic through the work zone. They will be using a lane closure to perform this work. Start: Thursday, 4/23/26, from 8 AM to 4:30 PM. Finish: Friday 4/24/26 from 8 AM to 4:30 PM. What: The traffic control subcontractor will shut down the eastbound lane to remove brush going up the mountain and then proceed down the mountain westbound the next day.

HAMILTON COUNTY I-75 at I-24 Interchange Reconstruction Phase 2: In order to complete final punch list items on this project, the contractor is planning to have ramp and lane closures the night of Thursday, April 23, from 9 PM to 6 AM for replacing/improving lane markings on I-75 South and I-24 West. As part of this punch list work, it will be necessary to temporarily close the entrance ramp from East Brainard Road to I-75 South. The two (2) right (outside) lanes along I-75 South will also be closed, from East Brainard Road to Exit 2 (I-24 West). There will also be two (2) right (outside) lanes closed, along the I-24 West ramp and some outside lane closures along I-24 West to Exit 184 (South Moore Road). Message boards, signs and detours will be provided to warn motorists of all ramp closures and to guide them to the next available exit or entrance ramp. No other ramp/lane closures are scheduled for this period, but the contractor may utilize traveling/moving operations to restripe several small areas of traffic markings on I-75 North and I-24 East to complete the striping portion of the final punch list. HAMILTON COUNTY I-75 at the Hamilton Place Mall interchange: The SR-153 southbound ramp to I-75 northbound has been reduced to one lane. Traffic shifts have been implemented on I-75 northbound and I-75 southbound, Shallowford Road entrance ramps, and Shallowford Road exit ramps and Hamilton Place Mall exit ramp. Hamilton Loop Road is closed for retaining wall construction and storm drainage installation between the intersections near Markman’s Jewelers and Texas Roadhouse. Beginning 04/27/26 through 4/30/26, the contractor will close 2 right lanes between 8 PM and 6 AM on I-75 SB from MM 8.8 to MM 6.6 for the installation of overhead signs. The contractor anticipates one night for closing two right lanes and one night for rolling roadblocks to mount the overhead signs. The remaining 2 nights are in case of adverse weather. MARION COUNTY I-24 [137-138.2] from 137 to 138.2 Rockfall Mitigation on I-24 near MM 137: The contractor will be performing rockfall mitigation operations on I-24 WB beginning at MM 138.2 in Marion County. The middle lane, right lane, and right shoulder have been closed. 2 Lanes of traffic have been shifted to flow on the left shoulder and left lane. Blasting will also occur during the weekdays between 9 AM and 3 PM. Blasting operations will require a rolling roadblock. All lanes will be reopened to traffic by May 22, 2026.
