On April 20, 2026, Patrolman Colten Johns of the Crossville Police Department responded to a vehicular accident at Woodmere Mall in Crossville, involving Shawn Adams Krank. Upon arrival, Officer Price had already contacted the driver, who admitted to drinking one beer before driving from Sparta, TN. Officer Price observed him stumbling and smelled alcohol on his person. Dispatch had previously received a report of a possible drunk driver with a matching license plate, though the vehicle was not located at that time. Security footage from Martino’s Mexican Store, captured on Officer Price’s body-worn camera, showed Mr. Krank striking a parked car.

While speaking with Mr. Krank, Officer Johns also detected a strong odor of alcohol. Mr. Krank consented to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs). During the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, multiple clues of intoxication were observed, including lack of smooth pursuit, distinct nystagmus at maximum deviation, and nystagmus prior to 45 degrees in both eyes. On the Walk and Turn test, he struggled to follow instructions, missed most heel-to-toe steps, used his arms for balance, stepped off the line, and made an improper turn. He was hesitant on the One Leg Stand test, swayed, kept his hands out for balance, and repeatedly put his foot down.

Due to failing the field sobriety tests and the supporting evidence, Mr. Krank was placed into custody at approximately 3:54 PM. He was transported to the Cumberland County Jail, where a search warrant was obtained for a blood sample. After being read the implied consent form, Mr. Krank signed his consent. A medical professional drew two vials of blood, which were properly labeled and placed into evidence for transport to the TBI lab for testing.

His wife was contacted to retrieve his vehicle from the scene.
