C.C.H.S. ART TEACHER SUSPENDED FOR ALLEGED EXPLICIT GROUP CHAT WITH FEMALE STUDENTS

According to records uncovered by WBIR, David Wilcox, an art teacher at Cumberland County High School in Tennessee, is under investigation for allegations of inappropriate explicit communication with a student. According to reports, a student claimed Wilcox was involved in a group chat with two female students that included very inappropriate and explicit conversations.

On May 12, law enforcement responded to the school, and Wilcox was immediately placed on suspension. He had already submitted a resignation letter effective May 27, but school officials adjusted it to place him on suspension right away, with the option to accelerate his resignation date.

Wilcox was previously involved in controversy in January over a classroom assignment called “two worlds,” in which he asked students about their sexual orientation, socioeconomic class, religion, and other personal details. His personnel file showed he had received a prior warning and was suspended for two days without pay for a similar issue.

As of now, Wilcox remains suspended while the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Crossville Police Department, and school system continue their investigation. Officials have stated they are taking the matter seriously and will not release further details until the probe is complete and the District Attorney has been consulted.
