On May 26, 2026, at approximately 6:20 PM in Crossville, a single-vehicle crash occurred on the westbound I-40 to Exit 320 off-ramp (Genesis Rd). The driver, 58-year-old Robert Epperson of Chandler, North Carolina, was operating a 2023 Freightliner tractor-semi trailer (owned by Ryder Truck Rentals) while negotiating a right curve on an uphill grade. Traveling too fast for conditions, the truck overturned onto its left side and came to rest on the left shoulder.

Epperson, who was wearing a seatbelt and not ejected, sustained suspected serious injuries. He was trapped/extricated and transported by ground ambulance to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

No alcohol or drug impairment is suspected.
