CROSSVILLE MAN ARRESTED FOR DUI AFTER CRASHING ON MAIN STREET

On June 3, 2026, at approximately 1949 hours, Crossville police units were dispatched to North Main Street in response to a motor vehicle accident, where primary officer Sgt. Henson noticed signs of intoxication from one of the drivers, Justin Dykes. The driver of the other vehicle reported that Mr. Dykes had been driving onto the sidewalk, failing to maintain speed, and fluctuating wildly in acceleration before rear-ending them while traveling north. Upon arriving on scene, the reporting officer noted that Mr. Dykes exhibited watery and droopy eyes, slow and slurred speech, an unsteady stance with a circular sway, and a strong odor of alcohol, though Mr. Dykes claimed he had only used a straw to consume his prescription Alprazolam.

Sgt. Henson discovered a straw containing white powdery residue in Mr. Dykes’ pocket, which was later destroyed on scene. Mr. Dykes consented to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests; he exhibited 6 out of 6 clues on the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, 3 out of 8 clues on the Walk and Turn test (which he performed barefoot and miscounted his steps), 1 out of 4 clues on the One Leg Stand, and demonstrated a circular sway and eyelid tremors during the Modified Romberg test.

After Mr. Dykes failed to provide a breath sample for a Preliminary Breath Test, the officer deemed him intoxicated by multiple mind-altering substances and placed him in custody. While in the patrol unit, Mr. Dykes was caught attempting to conceal an empty pill bottle and was found in possession of three 10/325 Oxycodone pills that he had covertly retrieved from his pants, which were subsequently seized as evidence.

Mr. Dykes was transported to the Cumberland County Justice Center where he consented to a blood draw under Implied Consent. A search warrant was secured at 2122 hours, and two vials of whole blood were drawn at Cumberland Medical Center at 2143 hours. Mr. Dykes was ultimately charged with Driving Under the Influence, Simple Possession, and Violation of Financial Responsibility, with the blood vials and Oxycodone pills logged into evidence at the Crossville Police Department.
