TRAFFIC STOP IN CROSSVILLE UNCOVERS COCAINE
On June 11, 2026, Officer Matt Charlock observed a black vehicle traveling 48 mph in a 40 mph zone on Interstate Drive. After the driver quickly moved over upon passing the officer, a traffic stop was initiated in the Aspen Dental parking lot. The driver, identified as Maxwell McAllister, was accompanied by a German passenger. McAllister appeared visibly nervous—shaking, red-faced, with a pulsating neck vein and increasingly heavy breathing—prompting the officer to question him about possible illegal items in the vehicle.
After initial denials followed by pauses, McAllister admitted there was cocaine inside. He directed officers to a box in the trunk containing a re-sealed bag of popcorn, inside which Detective Wilson found a Ziploc bag holding two smaller baggies: one with a white powdery substance (believed to be cocaine) and another with off-white crystals that McAllister identified as MDMA. After being read his Miranda rights, McAllister waived them and confirmed ownership of both substances, describing the cocaine as an “eight ball.”
The substances were later weighed at the Justice Center (cocaine approximately 3.58 grams, MDMA approximately 2.30 grams). A search of the vehicle yielded no other items of interest. McAllister was placed under arrest for felony possession of controlled substances (Schedules I and II) and issued a summons for speeding.
He was transported to the Cumberland County Justice Center for booking, while his vehicle was released to the passenger. The narcotics were seized, packaged, and placed into evidence at the Crossville Police Department pending TBI lab testing.
