ROCKWOOD CITY COUNCIL APPROVES NEW BUDGET WITH NO TAX INCREASES; CITY EMPLOYEE RAISES

The Rockwood City Council unanimously approved the city’s Fiscal Year 2026–2027 budget on its second and final reading during Monday night’s council meeting.

The newly passed spending plan maintains the current property tax rate, ensuring no tax increases for local residents in the coming year. Meanwhile, full-time city employees are set to receive a 3% pay raise alongside a $1,000 holiday bonus at the end of the year.

The budget passed with zero public opposition or comment. Mayor Jason Jolly opened the floor for discussion during a public hearing prior to the vote, but no citizens stepped forward to speak for or against the plan.

In addition to the budget passage, the council finalized several key appointments to local utility boards:

  • Water, Sewer and Gas Board: Joe Moore was appointed to the board, replacing James Knuckles, who recently resigned due to health issues. Moore has previously served on the board. Additionally, incumbent board member Ronnie Thompson was re-appointed to serve another four-year term.

  • Rockwood Electric Utility Board: Chris Carr was officially appointed as a new board member.

The council also approved a low bid of approximately $47,000 to pave the Community Center parking lot facing Front Street. Officials confirmed that the contract met all necessary work requirements and specifications before giving it the green light.

Finally, the city secured Cigna Health as the insurance provider for city employees for the upcoming year.
