MAN FACES MULTIPLE CHARGES AFTER ALLEGED WALMART PRICE-SWAPPING SCHEME AND FENTANYL ARREST

A Clarkrange man is facing a string of criminal charges in Cumberland County General Sessions Court following two separate alleged incidents involving retail fraud and drug possession.

Johnathan Kendrick Cravens, 26, appeared on the court’s criminal docket on June 25, 2026, facing charges of theft, vandalism, drug possession, and tampering with evidence.

According to court affidavits filed by Patrolman Matthew Charlock of the Crossville Police Department, authorities were called to the Crossville Walmart on March 28, 2026, to investigate a pair of recent thefts.

Loss Prevention staff provided video surveillance footage that allegedly captured Cravens executing a price-swapping scheme on two separate dates:

  • March 20, 2026: Cravens allegedly entered the store, removed price tags from low-cost items, and placed them onto a K&N Air Filter (valued at $45.88) and Royal Purple High Performance Motor Oil (valued at $37.56). He then used the self-checkout lanes, ringing up the high-value items for approximately $1.00 each before exiting the store. The total value of stolen goods was $83.44.

  • March 25, 2026: Cravens allegedly returned to the store and used the same method to alter the prices on a Fastpitch Softball Bat (valued at $76.00) and a bottle of Lucas Oil Stabilizer (valued at $14.44). The items again rang up for roughly $1.00 each. The total value of stolen goods for this incident was $90.44.

In addition to Theft of Merchandise, Cravens was charged with Vandalism (up to $1,000) for both dates. Authorities noted that by removing the original barcodes, Cravens rendered the lower-priced items unusable and unsellable for the retailer. Officer Charlock noted in the report that he was able to easily identify Cravens on camera due to “multiple previous encounters.”

Days after the Walmart warrants were issued, on April 4, 2026, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputy Caleb Charles, alongside other officers, tracked Cravens to a building at Stonehenge Drive to serve the active warrants.

Upon seeing law enforcement enter the building’s mall area, Cravens allegedly attempted to walk away from officers toward the rear of the building, moving along a common area wall.

Cravens was quickly taken into custody. A subsequent search of the immediate path he had just walked revealed a tin foil bundle hidden inside a plant feeder. According to the affidavit, the bundle contained approximately .39 grams of a blue powdery substance believed to be Fentanyl.

Following his arrest, Cravens was transported to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Intake for booking. He faces a total of six charges:

  • Two counts of Theft of Merchandise – Shoplifting

  • Two counts of Vandalism (up to $1,000)

  • One count of Simple Possession/Casual Exchange (Schedule II)

  • One count of Tampering with Evidence

Court records indicate that Cravens is being represented by the Public Defender’s office. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
