MAN ARRESTED AFTER HIT-AND-RUN COLLISION ON I-40 ON-RAMP IN CROSSVILLE

A local man faces charges after allegedly forcing another vehicle off the road with his trailer and fleeing the scene on Saturday afternoon.

On June 20, 2026, at approximately 5:03 PM, Crossville Police Officer Colten Johns responded to a two-vehicle accident in the turn lane of the Interstate 40 eastbound on-ramp at Exit 320 on Genesis Road.

According to police reports, the victim was in the right turn lane preparing to enter I-40 when a large black truck hauling a trailer loaded with sheetrock began merging into her lane. The victim told officers she honked her horn to warn the driver, but the truck continued moving forward. The trailer struck her vehicle, forcing her off the roadway.

The victim stated that the driver of the truck pulled over, exited his vehicle, and pulled his trailer’s fender away from a tire. He then allegedly returned to his truck and drove away without speaking to her. Bystanders at a nearby fireworks stand rushed to assist the victim, helping her pry open her jammed car door so she could exit.

Following the incident, police issued a “Be On the Lookout” (BOLO) alert for the suspect vehicle. Shortly after, Cumberland County Deputy Winebarger located a truck and trailer matching the description within the county’s jurisdiction.

The driver was identified as Camron Schubert. When questioned by law enforcement, Mr. Schubert admitted to being involved in an accident with his trailer at the entrance ramp and leaving the area. However, he claimed he believed he had only struck a guardrail.

Based on the evidence—including the victim honking her horn and Mr. Schubert exiting his vehicle to inspect the trailer for damage—investigating officers concluded that Schubert was fully aware he had struck another vehicle.

Mr. Schubert was placed into custody by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Cumberland County Jail without incident. Crossville Police have officially charged him with Leaving the Scene of an Accident.

The Crossville Police Department has marked the case status as cleared following the arrest.
