CROSSVILLE MAN ARRESTED FOR PUBLIC INTOXICATION AFTER BEING SPOTTED LYING ON CURB

A local man was taken into custody early Saturday morning after law enforcement spotted him lying on a roadside curb, leading to the discovery of an active warrant for a previous, identical offense.

According to a Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the events unfolded around 1:13 AM on June 27, 2026. Corporal Ethan Wilson was transporting another arrestee to intake when he noticed a male subject wearing a blue shirt lying in the grass at the intersection of Genesis Road and Heather Ridge Circle, with his head resting on the curb.

Cpl. Wilson radioed in the observation, prompting Deputy Jason Powers, Deputy B. Freeman, and Crossville Police Patrolman S. Foster to respond to the area.

Deputy Powers located the man—later identified as James Robert Martin, 52, of Crossville—walking near Genesis Road and Village Lane. Upon seeing the officers, Martin attempted to wave them along.

When deputies spoke with Martin, they noted a strong odor of alcohol, slurred speech, and extreme unsteadiness on his feet. Martin admitted to walking home from a nearby bar, “The Pit Stop Bar,” where he claimed to have consumed four or five beers.

As the interaction continued, Martin’s behavior escalated, and he became increasingly belligerent. He was subsequently taken into custody without further incident.

While Martin was being transported to intake, dispatch advised Deputy Powers that the suspect had an outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear stemming from a prior public intoxication charge in August 2022.

Martin faces the following charges in General Sessions Court:

  • Public Intoxication (Statute 39-17-310) — Bond set at $0.00

  • Failure to Appear (Statute 39-16-609) — Bond set at $1,500.00

He is scheduled to appear in court on July 2, 2026, at 8:30 AM.
