A local homeless man is scheduled to appear in Cumberland County General Sessions Court on Thursday, July 2, 2026, to face a string of misdemeanor charges stemming from multiple arrests over a two-month period.
Alan Wayne Campbell, represented by a public defender, faces seven separate counts spanning three separate incidents involving public intoxication, methamphetamine possession, unlawful drug paraphernalia, and criminal trespass.
According to court affidavits, Campbell’s legal troubles escalated through a series of interactions with Crossville police officers between March and May of this year:
-
March 24, 2026: Sgt. Amy Sherrill responded to a welfare check at Jan’s Wine and Liquor on Central Avenue, where Campbell was found sleeping in the parking lot near the roadway. Officers noted slurred speech, an odor of alcohol, and unsteady balance. A search incident to arrest reportedly uncovered a small glass pipe with burn residue and 0.18 grams of methamphetamine in his pocket.
-
April 22, 2026: Ptl. Steven McNeal responded to the McDonald’s patio at 1195 N. Main Street regarding an unresponsive male. Campbell was found continually passing out and had to be medically cleared by EMS. Police discovered a ziplock baggie containing 0.53 grams of methamphetamine in a chair next to him.
-
May 6, 2026: Ptl. Jacob Ogle contacted Campbell inside the Dollar General Market, where he had been formally banned two weeks prior. Upon arrest for criminal trespass, officers allegedly located 0.67 grams of methamphetamine on his person. Following statements indicating an intent to self-harm, Campbell was transported to Cumberland Medical Center for a mental evaluation.
Total Charges Facing Campbell:
-
3 counts: Methamphetamine – Possession or Casual Exchange
-
2 counts: Public Intoxication
