HEAT HOLDS ON AS STORM CHANCES INCREASE

Regional Forecast — Cumberland Plateau & Tennessee Valley

Dangerous heat will continue through the end of the workweek with Heat Advisories in effect Wednesday. Afternoon temperatures will climb into the middle and upper 90s, with heat index values reaching 100 to 105 degrees. Rain chances remain limited through Saturday before a better opportunity for showers and thunderstorms arrives on Sunday.

Wednesday: Heat Advisory. Sunny and very hot. Highs around 93 on the Cumberland Plateau and 96 in the Tennessee Valley. Heat index values up to 99 degrees on the Plateau and 105 degrees in the Valley.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear and warm. Lows around 73 on the Plateau and 74 in the Valley.

Thursday: Mostly sunny and very hot. Highs around 94 on the Plateau and 97 in the Valley. Heat index values near 100 degrees on the Plateau and 104 degrees in the Valley. Only an isolated late-day shower or thunderstorm is possible.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy and warm. Lows around 73 on the Plateau and 74 in the Valley.

Friday: Sunny and hot with scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms developing. Highs around 94 on the Plateau and 97 in the Valley. Chance of rain 30 to 40 percent.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy with a chance of evening showers and thunderstorms. Lows around 71 on the Plateau and 73 in the Valley. Chance of rain 30 percent.

Independence Day: Mostly sunny and hot with only isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Highs around 91 on the Plateau and 95 in the Valley. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy with a slight chance of evening showers and thunderstorms. Lows around 71 on the Plateau and 73 in the Valley. Chance of rain 30 percent.

Sunday: Mostly sunny with showers and thunderstorms becoming more numerous during the afternoon. Highs around 89 on the Plateau and 93 in the Valley. Chance of rain 50 to 70 percent.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy with a slight chance of lingering showers and thunderstorms. Lows around 70 on the Plateau and 72 in the Valley. Chance of rain 20 to 30 percent.
