Oscar Patterson, 87
Oscar Patterson, 87, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. He was born on June 5, 1939, in Ligias Creek, Tennessee, to the late Ramsey and Mazzie Patterson.
Oscar’s life was a testament to perseverance, hard work, and unwavering faith. At the young age of seven, he suffered the heartbreaking loss of both of his parents. Raised by his older siblings, he was unable to complete his education, but he never allowed life’s hardships to define his future. Instead, he built a life marked by determination, integrity, and an unmatched work ethic.
On June 4, 1956, Oscar married the love of his life, Estlean Patterson. Together they built a home centered on faith, family, and love, raising six children and creating a legacy that now includes 12 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Oscar spent his younger years growing up in New River before making Frost Bottom his home. Everyone who knew him knew he was happiest when he was working. Whether he was in his junkyard stacking cars as high as they could safely (what he considered safe) go before hauling them away, tending to another project, or caring for his beloved coon dogs, he believed in the value of honest work. Raising, training, and working coon dogs was one of his greatest passions, and his dedication to the sport earned him recognition in a magazine, a moment of pride that reflected years of commitment.
More than anything, Oscar was a man of deep and abiding faith. Church was a cornerstone of his life, and he lived out his beliefs every day through kindness, generosity, and service to others. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and would truly give the shirt off his back to someone in need. Those who knew him will remember that nearly every story about Oscar includes three things: he was working, he was with his family, or he was at church.
Oscar also treasured the simple moments. He enjoyed spending time with his special friends Brad and Keisha Webb, and he looked forward to reading the Bible each evening with Nick, a time of fellowship and faith that meant a great deal to him. He also shared a special friendship with Gene Hunter.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Estlean Patterson; his parents, Ramsey and Mazzie Patterson; four siblings; his sons, Wayne Patterson and Gene Patterson; his granddaughter, Mandy Patterson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children: Marietta Tucker; Ricky Patterson and wife Brenda; Rosetta Lively and husband Gary; and Charlotte Napier and husband Todd. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jenny Adkins, Melissa Adkins, Cristy Adkins, Alesha Edwards, Vanessa Patterson, Charles Copeland, Daniel Copeland, Jessica Braden and husband Bob, Derrick Napier and wife Kayla, Bradley Napier, and Tasha Patterson along with a host of treasured great-grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends.
Oscar’s legacy is not measured by the possessions he accumulated but by the lives he touched. He taught those around him the value of hard work, the importance of keeping your faith, and the strength found in loving and providing for your family. His life reminds us that a person’s beginnings do not determine their future, and that a life lived with faith, compassion, and determination leaves an enduring legacy.
Though he will be deeply missed, the lessons he taught, the love he shared, and the example he set will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A special thanks to the nurses who helped take care of him, as well as Bob Braden who helped care for him until the very end. Often, he didn’t want anyone’s help other than Bob.
The family will be receiving friends Friday. July 17, 2026, at Sharp Funeral Home from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a service to follow officiated by Pastor Randy Wallace. Interment will take place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 12:00 pm(noon) in Lively Cemetery.
Sharp Funeral Home is honored to serve the Patterson family during this time.
