KELLY SCOTT HOOD FACES COURT DEADLINE OVER ALLEGATIONS OF BURGLARY AND VEHICLE THEFT

A local man is scheduled to appear in the Cumberland County General Sessions and Criminal Courts for a deadline hearing on July 21, 2026, to address multiple felony charges involving burglary, unauthorized vehicle use, and vehicle theft stemming from a series of incidents in mid-2024.

According to court dockets and affidavits of complaint, Kelly Scott Hood, represented by attorney Jeff Vires, faces a lineup of serious criminal charges filed following separate investigations by the Crossville Police Department.

Key Charges and Allegations

  • Burglary and Theft (Case 18CC1-2024-CR-153): Hood faces formal filings for non-habitation burglary, aggravated burglary of a habitation, and theft of property valued between $1,000 and $2,500. A surety bond was set at $13,000 through Big Jim’s Bonding Company.

  • Joyriding (Case 18CC1-2024-CR-154): Hood is charged with unauthorized use of an auto/vehicle, with a separate surety bond set at $5,000.

  • June 2024 Stolen Vehicle Incident (Case GS24CR-1964): An affidavit filed by Patrolman Dakota Gunnels details an encounter on June 13, 2024, at a Genesis Road Speedway station. Officers made contact with Hood regarding a reported stolen car. The owner, Beth Braswell, told police she had repeatedly instructed Hood to stay away from her property. Upon inspection, officers discovered the car’s steering column had been disassembled to start it without a key. Hood allegedly admitted to taking the vehicle without permission to get groceries.

  • May 2024 Trespassing and Vehicle Theft (Case GS24CR-1458): In an earlier incident on May 1, 2024, officers responded to a trespassing and burglary call on Diane Street. Hood was found on the property with a push mower, claiming he had permission to clean the area. However, the homeowner denied giving consent. Police allege Hood entered the residence, retrieved a spare key, and took a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 valued at $1,500, which was later located two houses away.

Hood’s cases are scheduled for a deadline hearing as the court proceeds with the criminal docket. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
