As summer draws to a close, school districts across East Tennessee and Southeastern Kentucky are preparing to welcome students back for the new academic year. Start dates range from late July through late August, with several districts utilizing staggered entry schedules, early dismissals, or registration days to ease the transition.

Here is the breakdown of the official return dates for each school district:

East Tennessee School Districts

• Alcoa City Schools: First day of school is Thursday, July 23.

• Oak Ridge Schools: Begins with early dismissal districtwide on Monday, July 27, early dismissal for elementary students on Tuesday, July 28, and the first full day on Wednesday, July 29.

• Blount County Schools: Staggered start begins Wednesday, July 29 (last names A–K) and Thursday, July 30 (last names L–Z). All students attend together starting Friday, July 31.

• Hamblen County Schools: Early dismissal (11:15 a.m.) on Thursday, July 30, with the first full day on Monday, Aug. 3.

• Clinton City Schools: Half-day (11:30 a.m. dismissal) on Friday, July 31, followed by the first full day on Monday, Aug. 3.

• Monroe County Schools: Early dismissal (10:00 a.m.) on Friday, July 31, with the first full day on Monday, Aug. 3.

• Anderson County Schools: First day of school is Monday, Aug. 3.

• Cocke County Schools: Half-day (1:00 p.m. dismissal) on Monday, Aug. 3, followed by the first full day on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

• Hancock County Schools: Early dismissal (9:30 a.m.) on Monday, Aug. 3, with the first full day on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

• Hawkins County Schools: Early dismissal on Monday, Aug. 3, with the first full day on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

• Loudon County Schools: First day of school is Monday, Aug. 3.

• Roane County Schools: Half-day on Monday, Aug. 3, with the first full day on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

• Lenoir City Schools: Staggered start begins Tuesday, Aug. 4 (last names A–K) and Wednesday, Aug. 5 (last names L–Z). All students attend together starting Thursday, Aug. 6.

• Maryville City Schools: Staggered start begins Monday, Aug. 3 (last names A–K) and Tuesday, Aug. 4 (last names L–Z). All students attend together starting Wednesday, Aug. 5.

• Morgan County Schools: Half-day (11:30 a.m. dismissal) on Tuesday, Aug. 4, followed by the first full day on Wednesday, Aug. 5.

• Cumberland County Schools: Registration day (10:00 a.m. dismissal) on Wednesday, Aug. 5, with the first full day on Friday, Aug. 7.

• Fentress County Schools: Registration day with early dismissal on Monday, Aug. 3, with the first full day on Wednesday, Aug. 5.

• Greene County Schools: Early dismissal on Wednesday, Aug. 5, followed by the first full day on Friday, Aug. 7.

• Jefferson County Schools: Early dismissal on Wednesday, Aug. 5, followed by the first full day on Friday, Aug. 7.

• McMinn County Schools: Half-day (10:30 a.m. dismissal) on Wednesday, Aug. 5, with the first full day on Friday, Aug. 7.

• Claiborne County Schools: First day of school is Friday, Aug. 7.

• Grainger County Schools: Half-day (11:30 a.m. dismissal) on Friday, Aug. 7, with the first full day on Monday, Aug. 10.

• Scott County Schools: First day of school is Friday, Aug. 7.

• Sevier County Schools: First day of school is Friday, Aug. 7.

• Campbell County Schools: First day of school is Monday, Aug. 10.

• Knox County Schools: Half-day for students on Monday, Aug. 10.

• Union County Schools: Staggered start begins Monday, Aug. 10 (last names A–J) and Tuesday, Aug. 11 (last names K–Z). All students return together on Wednesday, Aug. 12.

• University of Tennessee: First day of classes is Monday, Aug. 17.

• Harlan County Schools: First day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 5.

• McCreary County Schools: First day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 12.
