SEMI TRUCK DRIVER ARRESTED AFTER I-40 CRASH AND MULTIPLE CHARGES INCLUDING DUI

A North Carolina man was arrested Tuesday evening following a chaotic multi-vehicle incident on Interstate 40 Eastbound near Mile Marker 340.

According to dispatch records, 37-year-old Anthony Ricardo Fields Jr. was operating a 2004 International semi-truck heading westbound on I-40 around 5:56 PM when his vehicle drifted off the left shoulder. The semi crashed through the median, taking out both a guardrail and a cable barrier before barreling entirely across the eastbound lanes and coming to rest against a second guardrail.

Despite the severe path of destruction, Fields—who was wearing his seatbelt—was uninjured.

A second vehicle, a 2015 Infiniti QX6 driven by 43-year-old Anji Kretschman of Tennessee, struck debris scattered across the highway from the semi-truck. Kretschman escaped without injury, and the vehicle sustained only minor damage.

Fields now faces an extensive list of charges, including:

  • DUI

  • Reckless Endangerment

  • Simple Possession and Drug Paraphernalia

  • Possession of a False Drug Test

  • Obstructing the Roadway

  • Failure to Maintain Lane

  • Failure to Exercise Due Care

Authorities have not reported any additional injuries stemming from the wreck.
