ROANE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD TO MEET TONIGHT TO FINALIZE NEW SCHOOL YEAR PREPARATIONS AND POLICY CHANGES

The Roane County Board of Education is set to convene tonight at 7:00 p.m. EST at the Edward E. Williams Administration Building in Kingston. With classes scheduled to begin on August 4, board members will tackle a packed agenda focused on final preparations, policy revisions, and equipment requests.

The meeting is open to the public.

Agenda Highlights

  • Naming Proposal: The board will consider naming the Midway High School football field “Branson-Wheaton Field.”

  • Policy Updates (Second Reading): Final approval will be considered for several Tennessee School Boards Association (TSBA) policy updates covering topics such as head lice and bed bug procedures, employee drug and alcohol testing, political activities, tutoring for pay, and Director of Schools policies.

  • New Policy Revisions (First Reading): Initial discussions will take place regarding TSBA-recommended revisions on teleworking during emergencies, school board meeting protocols, charter school renewals, and fiscal management goals.

  • Fast-Tracked Policy Changes: The board will consider waiving the second reading to quickly update policies regarding student medicines and the student dress code.

  • Funding & Equipment Requests:

    • Approval of 2025–2026 outstanding school funds.

    • A request from Roane County High School to purchase a $7,447 Dr. Dish CT+ basketball shooting machine.

    • Transferring an equipment trailer from the Harriman High School Band Aids organization directly to the school system for the Harriman High School band.

    • Declaring surplus technology and non-technology equipment from the Central Office.
