A Cumberland County resident fell victim to a sophisticated telephone scam on August 4, 2026, resulting in the theft of $8,400 through fraudulent ATM cash advances.

According to an incident report filed with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, a 43-year-old woman received a phone call from an individual falsely claiming to be a representative from First Bank. The scammer possessed the victim’s personal information, including her name, address, and actual bank details.

Under the guise of locking down her compromised account, the suspect instructed her to change her PIN. After she complied, she received a text message confirmation code from her bank, which she inadvertently provided to the caller.

The suspect used the obtained credentials to execute eight separate ATM cash advance transactions totaling $8,400. Each $1,000 withdrawal included an additional $50 fee. All transactions took place in Davidson County, Tennessee, specifically at First Bank ATM locations in Belle Meade, Gallatin, and Broadway.

Because the fraudulent acts occurred outside of Cumberland County, local authorities advised the victim to file secondary reports with the specific jurisdictions where the ATM withdrawals took place. An investigation into the unknown suspect is ongoing.
