CROSSVILLE RESIDENT NARROWLY ESCAPES SPEEDING TRUCK THAT DESTROYS PROPERTY
A Crossville man narrowly avoided injury on Monday afternoon after a speeding pickup truck careened through his yard, nearly striking him while he was mowing the lawn.
According to an incident report from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, a 68-year-old man was operating his lawnmower at his residence on Mayland Road on August 17 at approximately 12:30 p.m. when a rusty brown pickup truck sped across his property at an estimated 60 to 65 mph.
The vehicle struck and destroyed approximately $500 worth of wire fencing and fence posts before fleeing the scene.
Deputy Jordan Winningham responded to the report. The property owner told authorities that he believes the driver may reside in the Pleasant Hill area. Investigators recovered a headlight left behind at the scene, which is believed to belong to an early 1990s Chevrolet truck.
The investigation into the misdemeanor vandalism incident remains ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the vehicle or suspect is encouraged to contact the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
