Cumberland County is gearing up for its upcoming leadership transition, while neighboring Roane County has already celebrated its newly elected officials taking the oath of office.

In Cumberland County, Mayor Allen Foster has officially scheduled the swearing-in ceremony for newly elected county officials. The event will take place tomorrow on Friday, August 28, at 5:00 p.m. in the Cumberland County Commission Meeting Room (Room 300) on the third floor of the Cumberland County Courthouse, located at 2 N. Main St. Members of the public are warmly invited to attend and witness the transitions.

Meanwhile, just down the road in Roane County, newly elected and reelected leaders took their official oaths of office during a ceremony at the Roane County Courthouse in Kingston. The recent elections were officially certified at noon on Thursday by Election Commissioner Charles Holloway, paving the way for officials to begin their new four-year terms starting September 1st.

Among those sworn in were Roane County Mayor Wade Creswell, who spoke optimistically about leading the county into a new horizon over the next four years, and Keaton Bowman, who took the oath as the newly elected Roane County Court Clerk. Fifteen members of the Roane County Commission were also sworn in surrounded by family and friends.

Notably, newly elected Roane County Sheriff Tim Phillips—the former chief deputy—was absent from the initial ceremony as he was in Nashville completing mandatory training at sheriff school. Phillips is scheduled to receive his official oath on September 1st, succeeding current Sheriff Jack Stockton.
