RHEA COUNTY SHERIFF MIKE NEAL RETIRES AFTER MORE THAN TWO DECADES OF SERVICE
After more than 20 years of dedicated leadership, Rhea County Sheriff Mike Neal officially celebrated his retirement, leaving behind a legacy of transformative growth and community-focused safety initiatives.
First taking office on September 1, 2002, Sheriff Neal steered the department through massive developmental milestones. Among his most notable achievements was spearheading the transition from a decertified jail that held roughly 80 inmates to the construction and opening of the modern Rhea County Justice Center in 2021.
Beyond structural updates, Neal prioritized community outreach and emergency preparedness by establishing key programs:

SCAN (Senior Citizen Awareness Network): Designed to protect, resource, and connect with local senior citizens.

Homeland Security Group: Formed to handle major events, emergency operations, disasters, and critical incidents across the county.
