Former Chief Deputy Tim Phillips officially took the oath of office earlier today to become the new sheriff of Roane County, stepping into a role previously held for over two decades by outgoing Sheriff Jack Stockton.

Judge Jeff Wicks administered the oath in his courtroom, surrounded by family, friends, and supporters. Phillips missed the county’s general swearing-in ceremony last week due to mandatory attendance at Sheriff’s School in Nashville, but now officially begins his tenure leading the department.

Phillips succeeds Jack Stockton, who chose not to seek another term after serving as sheriff for more than 20 years. Stockton was recently honored at a farewell gathering at the Old Kingston Courthouse, where hundreds of community members celebrated his long tenure. Stockton is now focusing on a run for the Tennessee House of Representatives in the 32nd District.
