Roane County Mayor Wade Creswell recapped a packed week of state-level meetings, local retirements, and community planning in his weekly address, while also marking the conclusion of his first term in office.

The week included Creswell’s participation in the County Official Orientation Program (COOP) in Murfreesboro alongside newly elected commissioners. Discussions during the event centered heavily on regional economic growth and nuclear energy developments in and around the Oak Ridge Corridor. Creswell and other regional mayors also met with Governor Bill Lee’s administration to discuss Tennessee’s rising leadership in the nuclear sector.

A major focus of the mayor’s message was the profound impact and passing of Dolly Parton, whom Creswell remembered as likely the greatest Tennessean of all time, highlighting her unmatched humanitarian efforts, contributions to the arts, and support for institutions like East Tennessee Children’s Hospital and local Imagination Libraries.

Locally, the county recognized the retirement of Beth Johnson and her staff members Freda and Tina, who accumulated over a century of combined service to Roane County. Creswell also swore in returning and new school board members, participated in the Oak Ridge Reservation master planning with the Department of Energy, and noted ongoing local involvement in addressing regional childcare shortages through the Tennessee Child Care Solutions Summit.

Concluding his address on Saturday, August 29, Creswell reflected on completing his first four-year term, expressing gratitude to residents as he prepares to embark on his next term addressing upcoming community and infrastructure challenges.
