A Crossville resident was taken into custody on September 2, 2026, following a disturbance at Obed River Park where he yelled at and threatened park visitors.

Patrolman Colten Johns responded to the park at approximately 1619 hours after dispatch received reports of an aggressive male. Officer Johns located the suspect, identified as Shelton Jordan, near the fairgrounds adjacent to the park. Jordan appeared visibly upset and agitated.

According to police reports, Jordan explained that he was frustrated because he had lost his prescription glasses on a walking trail and could not see clearly. He further stated that he was hearing voices and believed others were listening to them, which contributed to him threatening individuals in the area.

Jordan informed officers that he was currently staying at The Bread of Life shelter but was facing imminent eviction due to drinking. Officers on the scene noted a strong odor of alcohol emanating from Jordan’s person, which grew more pronounced upon closer contact. Jordan subsequently admitted to consuming three beers down by the creek.

After initially agreeing to a Preliminary Breath Test and then refusing, Jordan was placed under arrest for public intoxication. Officers determined he posed a danger to himself and the general public. He was transported to the Cumberland County Jail without further incident.
