ROANE COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING DRAWS LARGE CROWD OVER RUMORS OF GOVERNMENT RESTRUCTURING
A standing-room-only crowd packed the Roane County courtroom on Monday night, driven by rumors that County Mayor Wade Cresswell was considering taking on the role of commission chairman.
During the public comment session, multiple residents spoke out against the potential shift, arguing that combining the positions would concentrate too much power within the county mayor’s office. While dual-role systems exist in other Tennessee counties, local speakers made it clear they opposed the change in Roane County.
Addressing the concerns directly, Mayor Cresswell assured attendees that he has no interest in becoming chairman and is not pursuing any alterations to the current county government structure.
