CUMBERLAND COUNTY REPORTS MIXED FINANCIALS WITH LOWER PERMIT FEES AND EMS REVENUE
Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster has released the latest financial update, highlighting a mix of lower collections in permits and emergency services alongside positive year-to-date sales tax figures.
Building and Permit Metrics

Permit Activity: The Codes Department issued 26 residential building permits and zero commercial permits in August 2026.

Permit Revenue: Total collected fees reached $35,291, falling short of the $41,731 collected during the same period last year.

Additional Permits: The department also processed 41 general mechanical permits and 35 general plumbing permits.
Revenue and Tax Highlights

EMS Collections: Emergency services brought in $276,894, missing the estimated monthly income of $433,333 and leaving the service $176,647 below projections year-to-date.

Sales Tax: General Purpose School Fund local option sales tax collections hit $1,506,503 in September. While this came in $39,735 below monthly projections, the county remains $26,125 above projections for the fiscal year.

Other Revenue Streams: Hotel and motel tax collections brought in $121,246 (accounting for 9.90% of the budget), while prisoner boarding generated $38,212 for the month.
Fuel Cost Savings
The county is currently seeing relief at the pump compared to its budgeted fuel estimates. While gas and diesel were budgeted at $3.50 and $4.50 per gallon respectively, current averages stand lower at $2.87 for gas and $4.26 for diesel.
