FENTRESS COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE ISSUES URGENT WARNING OVER SPOOFED PHONE SCAMS
Local authorities are urging residents to exercise extreme caution following a surge of fraudulent phone calls impersonating law enforcement officers.
The Fentress County Sheriff’s Office reported receiving multiple complaints regarding scammers posing as Sheriff Hunter Fowler and demanding money. In a separate scheme, callers are falsely claiming that recipients have missed jury duty and face active arrest warrants, offering to clear the warrants if a payment is made over the phone.
Officials have issued a definitive warning: these calls are complete scams.
-
No Financial Demands: Sheriff Fowler and the Sheriff’s Office will never call citizens to ask for money.
-
No Warrant Payments: Law enforcement will never contact individuals by phone to announce arrest warrants or request payment over the phone.
-
Official Channels: Any legitimate fundraising efforts by the Sheriff’s Office are exclusively announced through their official Facebook page and WDEB Radio.
Residents who receive these suspicious calls are advised to hang up immediately and avoid sharing any personal or financial information.
