EARLY VOTING UNDERWAY IN TENNESSEE AS STATE OFFICIALS HIGHLIGHT SECURITY AND AMENDMENT 2

– By Dudley Evans
Early voting is officially underway across Tennessee, giving residents until October 29 to cast their ballots ahead of the November 3 general election.
Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett marked the start of the voting period by touring polling locations and election commissions across the region, including stops in Roane County and West Oak Ridge. Joined by Roane County Election Commission Chairman Troy Beets and Election Administrator Charles Holloway, Hargett emphasized voter turnout, election security measures, and the overall integrity of the voting process.

Local Races and Key Ballot Measures

  • Anderson County: Voters in District 8 (Oak Ridge) will decide a special election for the County Commission seat, featuring a contest between Republican Don A. Layton and Democrat Gina Grubb.
  • Constitutional Amendment 2: State leaders, including the State Republican Caucus and Senator Ken Yager, are heavily promoting a “YES” vote on Amendment 2. While Tennessee does not currently levy a state property tax, the amendment aims to constitutionally prohibit future legislatures from implementing one, protecting homes, farms, and businesses from a potential new statewide levy.

Important Voting Details

  • Dates: Early voting runs daily through October 29.
  • Roane County Locations: Ballots can be cast early at four local sites, including community centers in Harriman, Rockwood, and Kingston, as well as precinct locations like The Milestone Church in Oak Ridge.
Election officials encourage all eligible voters to review their local voting schedules and make a plan before heading to the polls.
