DAVID VAN WIEREN FACES MULTIPLE CHARGES AFTER ALLEGEDLY CHASING AND THREATENING VICTIMS WITH FIREARM IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

A Cumberland County man is slated to appear in General Sessions Court on October 26, 2026, to face multiple criminal charges, including two counts of aggravated assault, following a September 14 incident involving a side-by-side vehicle and a firearm.
According to court records and an affidavit of complaint filed by Deputy Jason Powers, law enforcement was dispatched to the Retreat Drive area of the Cumberland Mountain Retreat following reports of a disturbance.
Investigators state that the defendant, David D. Van Wieren, pursued two victims in a side-by-side vehicle. According to the affidavit, Van Wieren allegedly blocked the victims in on the roadway twice before they managed to escape to their residence.
Authorities report that Van Wieren then followed them, pulled out what was described as a Glock-style handgun, and pointed it at the victims twice.
Following the incident, deputies responded to Van Wieren’s residence, where he reportedly refused to exit. Law enforcement attempts to contact him via public address systems were initially unsuccessful.
Court documents indicate Van Wieren has been formally charged with:
  • Two counts of Aggravated Assault (TCA 39-13-102)
  • One count of Resisting Stop, Arrest, or Search (No Weapon) (TCA 39-16-602)
The cases are scheduled on the Cumberland County General Sessions Court criminal docket.
Note: All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
