TWO SEPARATE CRASHES CAUSE TRAFFIC HEADACHES ALONG CUMBERLAND COUNTY HIGHWAYS

Local authorities responded to two distinct motor vehicle collisions in Cumberland County, involving multiple vehicles, temporary traffic delays, and minor to possible injuries.

US-70 Multi-Vehicle Collision

On October 29 at approximately 11:59 AM, a three-vehicle pileup occurred on US-70 near Deep Draw Road.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol preliminary report, a 2015 Nissan (Vehicle 3), driven by 81-year-old Della Rigsby, slowed down in the eastbound travel lane to make a right turn into a business. A 2010 Ford F-150 (Vehicle 2), driven by 39-year-old Dominic Guerrieri, slowed behind it.
A 1997 International dump truck (Vehicle 1), driven by 66-year-old Barry Sooter, failed to stop in time and rear-ended the Ford F-150, pushing it into the Nissan.
  • Injuries: While drivers Sooter, Guerrieri, and Rigsby reported no injuries—along with passenger Nancy Dalton (67)—another passenger in the Nissan, Keith Dalton (64), sustained possible injuries.

I-40 Rear-End Crash Involving Unknown Semi

Just a short time later on the same day at approximately 12:30 PM, a second collision took place on Interstate 40 near the 336 marker in Cumberland County.
The report states that a 2002 Toyota (Vehicle 1), driven by 70-year-old Anita Hall with a juvenile passenger, and a 2000 Freightliner truck (Vehicle 2), driven by 40-year-old Matthew Creekmore, were traveling eastbound. An unknown semi-truck abruptly pulled out into traffic from the 335 eastbound rest area directly in front of them.
Both drivers hit their brakes to avoid a collision, but the Freightliner struck the rear of the Toyota. The unknown semi-truck continued driving away from the scene.
  • Injuries: Fortunately, neither driver nor the juvenile passenger in the Toyota (who was safely secured in a car seat and wearing a seat belt) reported any injuries.
