CACTUS FIRE IN BIG SOUTH FORK REACHES 75% CONTAINMENT AS RAIN AND COOLER WEATHER AID CREWS
Containment of the Cactus Fire within the Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area has risen to 75%, according to an update released Sunday by park officials and the Fentress County Fire Department.
The wildfire, which spans an estimated 220 acres, saw minimal activity over the weekend thanks to cooler temperatures, rising humidity, and helpful rainfall. Authorities report that no homes are currently threatened by the blaze.
While the progress is encouraging, the fire is not yet fully contained. All previously announced temporary closures and restrictions remain in effect as crews continue their work.
The Fentress County Fire Department expressed gratitude to the National Park Service and wildland firefighters battling the incident, urging the public to continue respecting posted closures and to keep responding personnel in their thoughts. Officials will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates if conditions change.
