CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL VOTES TO EXTEND CITY MANAGER SEARCH DEADLINE

A petition signed by seven candidates in the running for two seats on the Crossville City Council requesting a hold be put on the search for a full time city manager became a moot point at Thursday’s council meeting. The discussion was led by Council Member Pete Souza after he made a motion to rescind a July resolution to begin the search for the position in September instead of waiting for after a new council is seated in November. Souza and Council Member Jesse Kerley are not running for re-election. Souza asked why the council would appoint a new city manager when the new council could fire him, costing the city six months compensation. Council Member Danny Wyatt then made a motion to rescind the July resolution, extend the deadline for resumes to Oct. 15 and to have them back from review by MTAS by Nov. 15. Mayor Pro Tem Pam Harris seconded the motion and stated that the whole mess over the city manager’s search was ridiculous. She went on to say that even if they kept the Sept. 30th deadline, resumes would still have to be turned in to MTAS, and then sent back for the council to review, so the new city manager would still probably not be chosen for at least two months. The motion to extend the deadline for resumes until October 15th passed unanimously.
