As Shults continued on, he struck a 2000 Toyota 4 Runner head-on. The driver of the Toyota, 22-year-old Courtney D. Howe of Knoxville, was airlifted to UT Medical Center for treatment of injuries. She was restrained. Shults was also flown to UT for treatment. Today the grand jury indicted Shults for vehicular assault, DUI, reckless endangerment and possession of a handgun while under the influence.
