MAN INDICTED FOR DEATH OF CROSSVILLE K-9 OFFICER

A Cumberland County grand jury handed down multiple indictments this morning (Monday, October 16, 2017) against a man charged with the death of a Crossville K-9 officer. Back in August, 28-year-old Dustin Lee Dixon of Crossville ran from police and after K-9 Officer Cain was deployed to stop Dixon, he allegedly fatally stabbed the officer. This morning, Dixon was indicted for the intentional killing of a service animal, theft over $10,000, reckless endangerment, aggravated assault, DUI, evading arrest, violation of the implied consent law. Since the state does not have a law in effect yet charging the death of a K-9 officer as the same as the death of a human police officer, the intentional killing of a service animal was the best charge that could be brought down in the case.
