“”BREAKING NEWS”” KERRY EXPANDS CROSSVILLE PLANT WITH $13 MILLION INVESTMENT

Monday, Cumberland County and City of Crossville Officials announced the sizeable expansion of a county business that will also bring new jobs. As part of the Horizon Initiative, Crossville-Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce President Brad Allamong introduced County Mayor Kenneth Carey who talked about the new expansion coming to the Kerry facility, formerly known as Hickory Specialties. The Cumberland County plant originally opened in 1972 in Mayland and is considered one of the industry leaders in liquid smoke production. Plant Manager Freddy Conley stated that the new $13 million expansion would add approximately 18,200 square feet to the existing facility, making room for sawdust receiving and storage, production equipment, and additional office and conference space. The site currently employees 50 workers. The expansion will also bring 10 new job openings. Monday night, the Cumberland County Commission made a strong commitment to the business when they unanimously approved a Payment-In-Lieu-Of-Tax Lease Agreement between the company and the Industrial Development Board. Crossville Mayor James Mayberry said that he was thankful for the business’s commitment to the community, and Allamong stated that he would be going to other local plants and businesses and asking for their commitment to grow their presence in the community to provide new job opportunities.
