A TRIO OF I-40 ACCIDENTS ON SUNDAY

Three major accidents occurred on Interstate 40 on Sunday, Dec. 1st.
Accident 1, occurring at 3 p.m.
A 2015 Kia Soul driven by Kayleigh Cheyenne Lowe was traveling West on I-40 near the 333-mile marker when it ran off the left roadside, struck the cable barrier, and overturned. Lowe’s vehicle came to a final rest on the left shoulder.
Within the vehicle were the driver and four passengers, ages 19, 5, 2, and 1. The two adults within were not wearing seat belts, and all but one child was improperly restrained. All would sustain injuries in the crash and Lowe would be charged with Lack of Due care, Child restraint, and driving with a suspended license.
Accident 2, occurring at 5 p.m.
A 2006 Mazda MZ6 driven by Lynsi Nicole Sauder and a 2007 Saturn SI2 driven by Caden R. Gregory were traveling west on Interstate 40 in the left lane. Sauder’s Mazda struck Gregory’s Saturn in the rear causing the Saturn to cross the median, travel across both Eastbound lanes of traffic, and strike a ditch.
The Saturn would continue up an embankment and come to a final rest behind a guardrail at State Road 101. Sauder’s Mazda went into the median and traveled a short distance before coming to a final rest.
Both drivers sustained injuries, and Sauder was charged with Failure to yield. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Accident 3, occurring at 6:55 p.m.
A 2017 Toyota Corolla driven by Ranya Moreland Was traveling East on I-40 in the left lane when it failed to negotiate a curve to the right, ran on the left shoulder, overcorrected, and rotated around to the right.
The Corolla traveled off the roadway and struck a tree coming to a final rest.
Moreland did not suffer any injuries during the crash and was not charged.
