ACCIDENT BETWEEN TWO TRACTOR-TRAILERS CLOSES I-40 WEST

An accident between two tractor-trailers in Putnam County yesterday resulted in Interstate 40 westbound being closed for a few hours. The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a 2018 Freightliner FedEx rig driven by Aaron D. Johnson of Rural Hall, North Carolina was attempting to merge onto the interstate around the 290 mile marker when he was hit by an oncoming 2004 Volvo tractor-trailer operated by Jan C. Gonzalez of New York City. The impact resulted in one of the trailers Johnson was hauling to separate causing packages to come out of the trailer scattering onto I-40. The only injury noted was minor ones to Gonzalez. Westbound traffic had to be diverted in Monterey onto Highway 70 for four hours.
